since it hit $3.00 here today for 87 octane I figured I'd remind everyone to check their airfilter and raise the tire pressure a little. I have a two door and I dropped my spare off in the garage for around now too, figured the weight might help too.

You can trash a set of tires in 15000 miles.
Not so cheap then, 4 replacement tires...(work it out)
As noted in another thread, I am paying US$3.70/USgal, and most European counties are paying more than that (even before the hurricane). Don't whinge about the price of gas when yours is the cheapest (by country) outside the Middle East...............

Don't whinge about the price of gas when yours is the cheapest (by country) outside the Middle East............... Gary, perhaps so. But the MAIN reason why your gas is more expensive is due to the tax YOUR government places on gasoline. In OZ it's nearly $1.00 (USD) tax PER gallon. In the U.S. the combined federal/state tax averages about $.40 (USD) per gallon. That's the main reason why our gas is cheaper. In the UK it's over $2.82 (USD) per gallon in tax alone. So yea...we still reserve the right to complain. And if you don't like the price of gas in OZ you can always fuss to your leaders. Good luck.

I put in a couple of new BFG TKO's and the shop put in 35 lbs of air. I noticed the truck a little jumpier on bumps and the tire getting dirty only in the middle, which tells me I'm not using the whole tire and will not get the best grip on wet roads. True, I have the factory rim, but I will go down to 26 to use more of the tire grip and a better ride. I used to run the tires at 24 and it rode really nice and gripped well. The difference in gas milleage was maybe 1 or 2 mpg, not enough to warrant a back breaking air adjustment. I think I'll try and buy myself a Geo Metro for gas purposes and leave my Kia for long travels.

I guess I was just looking at the instant savings, and not long term tire wear, so I brought them back down a bit. Thanks for the input.

Anyone done an LPG conversion? It takes a few years to recoup the initial cost but I've never heard of it being done to a 4 cylinder car. Does it drain that much power that it aint worth it, ie.- power loss = more throttle to maintain previous speed = more fuel consumption?

They do it in Mexico all the time i all engine sizes. I heard it not only saves gas, but gives more mpg and you can still run gasoline if desired in case the lpg system stops functioning. A lot of people run that type of set-up down there. By what I heard, it can run between 1000 to 2000 dollars depending on vehicle.
