It has a tapered nozzle, that fits vacuum lines of various sizes, on the end of a hose that it pumps smoke through. So I disconnected the vacuum line for front axle shift actuators before the check valve and connected it there and pumped it full of smoke and the only place smoke came out was the air cleaner box.

Not sure what else you need to know about it. I would try checking it with starter fluid or propane but I would likely blow myself up or set my car on fire.
