I just noticed the Erie PA... Do you wheel anywhere near there? We have a cottage into NY at Findlay Lake. I have been looking for a place to go on weekends.

Also, for your future bone yarding, try Car-Part.com.

I haven't really got a chance to wheel anywhere yet. If I run into group, then I can pass along the info. I know we have a "Mud Mushers", but I don't know of a trail driving group.

I frantically held off the new assembly. Way cheaper. I called a couple salvage yards. I thought I was in the going to save some mullah!

But the one place pulled it off the truck, and it was all rusted also. I called my brother-in-law who's a mechanic, and he said don't mess with salvage yard fuel pumps. The have been sitting for so long, they can be "dirty" and fail. He recalled a job where he replaced a salvage assembly, and the pump failed. So it had to be replaced again.

So, I'm comfortable with the repair costs until I read this....

...he states the sending unit is $62.50 and the pump is $491 Part numbers-sending unit MB571603- Pump is MR208665
....

Wow, that's helpful. I didn't know you could purchase the sending unit separately. I'll have to confirm evertything if every thing needs replaced. Hopefully, I can talk to my mechanic before he picks it up.

There are two units that drop into the tank. One is the sending unit for the gauge, and the other is the fuel pump. Your problem is with the lines, correct? If so, it's the fuel pump unit. Which makes sense too, in that there's really nothing on the sending unit to leak gas. About the only thing that goes on it is the connector that the wire connects to. You get no gauge when that happens.

Can you do without the truck for a few days? Have the B-I-L look at it and see if you can pull it easily. If so, and the cover itself is okay, then replace the lines and save yourself $600! JMO... I replaced my sending unit a year ago and it was definitely under $100! Makes more sense that it is leaking at the fuel pump. I made my own hard lines into the fuel pump by using steel tubing from Summit Racing. I think I used 3/8. I soldered it onto the fuel pump cover and it has been just fine! Bending the tubing can be a pita. I suggest that you also check the lines coming out of the fuel pump. Mine were badly corroded and about ready to break. I replaced all my fuel lines by fabricating them myself. Kind of a time consuming, frustrating job, but I sure saved some bucks! Dang stealer wanted $99 for each of the hoses with banjo fittings at the fuel pump <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
