Body Damage is Cool
Bought this from Ed (aka Rip) in Raleigh:

[Linked Image]

He kept the 33's and I need to do a little work to it to get it road/trail worthy. all the power stuff inside works, and the 3.4 is putting out around 200 hp. Probably just gonna do a light buildup so's I can to drive it on the weekends, tow a future project, and pull light to medium trail duty:

-paint it some different color (not much for burgundy, meself) I'd love it if I could find a line on some of the original graphics that came on some of the OG rigs.
-round-eye grill
-a little tranny work (clutch and fix or swap to another mua5)
-a little tube work for bumpers & sliders
-winch
-buy a bunch of front end crap (bj's, tre's, new brake stuff, wheel bearings, etc) just so I don't have to worry about it **NEVERMIND! Slapping together solid axle parts!**
-33-35" trxus m/t's for their road manners, good siping for the winter, price, and awesome offroad capabilities **NEVERMIND! 36-38" meat!**
-FRONT AND rear lockers
-mirror dice (of course)

should be able to get it to my place this weekend, or soon thereafter.

I'm excited

and in case anyone is wondering, the swollen goat will be traded to a friend of mine for his 97 toyota camry (DD, baby!). we have a d44 for it and big plans involving big tires, tube, alloy, and of course the trusty cutoff wheel.

Congrats on the new Trooper

It sounds like you'll have an impressive rig with a little bit of work. Great starting point

Enjoy,

Roll Me Over
Nothing like using anothers project vehicle. That's definatly the way to buy. That 3.4 already sitting in there is a great start to a good running trail/street truck.

after some thought, this should be more of a trail vehicle. I mean, I'll have a reliable DD. time to get on an SAS. I'll try to keep it street legal

nothing I can't handle

Two ways I'm thinking of going with the axles:
a) Find a wide (like 63" wms-wms) 12 bolt rear from a 2nd gen troop and do a one link rear w/ coils, and a chevy front d44 w/ the long side cut down for a waggy shaft; leaves. more time-consuming and probably pretty pricey to get it setup for extensive flogging.
b) Use a toyota front axle and the stock rear. I could get a 4.56 3rd member from a V6 4runner and run the stock rear gears. With the power it's got, it shouldn't be a problem. I'd get some spacers for the front and 2" backspaced wheels to help with the width issue. toy axles are readily available, lots of folks around here run them (nice for bumming spare parts) and this setup could save me some time and $$$.

I'm torn on the drivetrain. I have another MUA5 I can beef up with teras, but I want to have a much lower crawl ratio than this would afford me. maybe a divorced case behind it, or switch to another trans with more case options.
