could this be the cause of why at full lock or close to it the steering is hittign somewhere on the frame causing a nasty grinding noise? Mines been doing that for like 2 years now....maybe this will get a lot of stuff refreshed up front for me for free. I'll call em tomorrow and see what they say.

there are 4 steering stops under there that you need to put grease on and that'll stop the noise

just got off the phone with Toyota 800#. They said an alignment is covered. There are instructions to the dealer to provide a full front alignment if needed or a toe adjustment at the minimum.

JG

I called the 1 800# today and they said mine fell under the recall, but didn't know about an alignment. So I dropped it off at the dealer tonight, but forgot to ask them about the alignment. I'll have to call them tomorrow and ask..

If I've got it right, they've got to break the pitman arm loose, constituting the alignment after it goes back together.
With what tires are going for these days, if you haven't had an alignment in awhile......

im waitng on service manager to call m back, my truck is under the recall and gonna get it done ASAP, cant complain aobut new steering parts for free. I will defianlty ask em to do full alignment, atl east up front for sure, and ask aobut my grinding noise and where its hitting metal to metal.
EDIT:
Reno Toyota said front end full alignment was part of the service.. if your dealership didnt do it go back to em.
Nov 15th mine gets done

So saturday they said it'd probably be wed. till they get the alignment machine fixed.. I drove down there and took a look at it in the parking lot.. the alignment is way off you can tell one wheel is turned more than the other, but looking under there in addition to the new relay rod they put on new tierods too...

While I was there I test drove a silver 05 access cab tacoma 4x4 5spd 4cyl with the sr5 package. Expected it to run a little smoother at lower rpms and just to feel more solid than it did, makes me want to keep my truck a lot longer=p

hey, i've just call toyota canada & got confirmed that i fall under the recall campaign. Sweet. Question is, does it come with a free alignment too? That would be great as I haven't had one for a over a year! (Hope they'll figure things out with the 32's, balljoint spacers & cranked torsion bars..."most importantly, hope they won't reset the front end back to the stock height...")

WHAT A PITA!!! Not that I'm really after the free alignment or the relay rod, I went to the dealer today drop off the truck & they phoned me 3.5hrs later saying that it's not under the recall campaign. Colis!!! I've phoned Toyota Canada the other day & they said "Yes", but a "NO" at the dealership. So wasted half a day for nothing...

But i'm glad my relay rod is "safe" though.

Know what's funny? I actually receive a letter today from toyota saying that I once again fall under the recall! (After a yes,...no,... & now a yes again) They really need to make up their mind. Anyway, call dealer today & ask about the alignment, but was told only toe alignment (not full alignment: Caster/Camber/toe/...) might be adjusted only if needed.

Is this true? Should i ask another dealer instead?

Ask another dealer. If doing an alignment, shouldn't be halfazzed in my book, esp if both of the tire rods wind up needing an R&R.

AHAH--you've got a piece of paper in hand; make 'em eat it.
