just got it back tonight, about perfect alignment now and with new tie rods and relay rod edit: got a pic of it, it was dark out though.. Question - did they replace your tie rods at no cost? I'm planning on taking mine in soon. I think I need new tie rods, but if they are going to replace them under the recall campaign, I'm sure not going to bother buying and replacing them myself!

Got mine done - apparently this is the only one the dealer here has seen so far. They couldn't align it b/c my idler arm needs to be replaced. $368 parts and labor. I'll do it for about $50 in my driveway... Pics... ![[Linked Image]](http://tom.carya.org/images/truck/steeringlinkage2.jpg)

If you replace the idler arm yourself will they then align it for you for free if you bring it back in?

Why do you need a letter? I just took mine to the dealer and told them I needed the recall done. They looked up the VIN, put the truck on a hoist to see if they needed to order the tie rods as well as the relay rod, and scheduled me for a few days later. There is no need for a letter as it all goes by the VIN code anyways. They thought they would need to replace the tie rods (due to rusty threads I guess??), but they ended up only replacing the relay rod. The whole thing was very easy. On the downside, my truck had never been aligned in 218,000 miles as far as I know and yet drove perfectly straight with no uneven tire wear. After the new rod and alignment, the steering wheel is crooked and it drifts left . I don't know if I should take it back and *****, or just re-align it myself after work. It will take me an hour or so, but at least it will be done right. Another weird thing is that I asked him to look up my VIN for previous warranty/recall work so I could see exactly what mileage the head gaskets and timing belt was replaced and the computer showed that my truck had never had any work done to it. I bought it at 150k and the previous owner said the recall work was done 20-30k prior. If I would have known it never got entered, I could have had them do the head gasket recall again before the campaign ended and gotten a cheap water pump and timing belt job done. Oh well, it looks like I'll have to do it myself. I think I have about 90-100k on the belt

I went to in and had The work done my truck drove good for the first couple of hours then when I drove over some train tracks it started to pull very hard to the right. I crawled under my truck and The CLUELESS IDIOTS at Toyota forgot to tighten my lower a-arm bolts:8 and they were all out of whack. Now after about 2 mins of my time I have it perfectly alined. I guess if you want something done right you have to do it yourself (as long as you've got beer).

Not necessarily. It means if someone ELSE is doing the work, you open the hood or crawl around underneath and do a GOOD VISUAL inspection before you even drive off the lot.
