I just got the letter of recall in the mail this week. I have an SAS with an aftermarket Pitman arm also. So from the steering gear box on-ward it's aftermarket. so am I ok? Would be a good laugh to take it in anyway and see the look on the mechanics face when he gets ready to work on it

Are you sure it qualifies for the recall?"

True, you'd find out if you had a skosh mechanic under the rack or not in about 15 minutes.

Are the recall letters coming from the dealer that you bought the truck new from or is Toyota sending them out based on registrations? I bought my truck used from a private party and have had it dealer serviced since but have not received a recall letter.

my letter looks like it came from toyota b/c NHST made them. I just wanted to make sure the recall wasn't for a steering part between the steering wheel and steering box. Now that I know.. i'm good. Yes It would be funny to see the look on their face, but they'd prbly want me to drop it off for half the day and end up charging toyota as if they did the work. I'll spend my time doing something else.. like working on my turbo 84 supra.

Just checked my 1995 4WD 4Runner by calling. I am eligible. I must say, the phone part of this went well.
Toyota was going to forward my info to the "Customer Relations manager" at my local dealship and they should call me within 3 business days to schedule the work.
Too bad I just replaced my tie rod ends because they were too rusted to be adjusted! Could of gotten new tie rod ends free. Oh well.

Could of gotten new tie rod ends free. Oh well. Probably not. For every post here that got free TRE's there's probably thousands of others who didn't. I'm getting mine done next Friday and they seemed hesitant to even give a toe alignment until I told the service writer that I had already spoken with Toyota America!

The automotive industry does NOT look for registrations; the sendout is based on the vehicles they have in their database for the dealerships.
Take your VIN to the dealer and let them know you exist, and have them check it out for you, or contact Toyota yourself; phone number is in the narrative.
On the un-sticky, I didn't do it. I might work up a compilation for the tech section tho.
