Hi all,
I'm not on this board much, but I wanted to share some info on my NP205 install into my Trooper.
I picked up a divoced NP205 t-case (Dodge - right side drop) and will be installing it behind my exhisting tranny and t-case to use as a doubler. I will also be twin-sticking it just for a little extra fun.
No pics yet, 'cuz I haven't got much done yet. I removed the rear driveshaft and cut the crossmember that the carrier bearing bolts to.
I'll weld some mounts to the frame, then bolt the 205 to the frame and start taking measurements for my 3 new driveshafts. (One for the rear, one for the front, and an intermediate shaft from the output of the stock tranny to the input of the 205.)
Being that my rig is a '87, it's got the older style tranny/t-case where the front output lobe bolts to the side of the tranny. I have to cut the front output off so that its not in the way of the front driveshaft coming from the 205. This should be fairly easy to cut and weld (or drill and tap) a plate.
Once mounted to the frame, I'll take some pics. I have a 2" body lift, but I'll probably pound the floor up only an 1" to make the bottom of the 205 sit at the same level as the original t-case.
The NP205 is only a 2:1 reduction, but it's still twice as good as what I have now! I can't get terra lows for my tranny, but if I could I'd only have 3.07:1. The NP205 will give me almost 4:1.
I should make some more progress this weekend.
