you could have gotten a "for street only" vehicle (2wd diesel comes to mind) and then you'd only have to worry about keeping your passport trailworthy. I don't understand buying a brand new rig to beat on.

2wd? He lives in SLC. Why would he (or anyone) want 2wd?

I was just saying if I had a beater rig, I'd get a tow rig. Based on what he payed for the Jeep, a 2wd deisel truck could be in that range, 4wd might be more.

Again, that is what I would do -- it's his money, and if he's happy with it, cheers

I went throught the same thing. I was considering a SAS on my 98 Rodeo, but with 2 small kids I do not have time for building and/or continuosly maintaning a completely custom rig, so I brought TJ simply becuase it is the only game in town and is easy to find upgrades/parts, etc.

Does not make sense for Utah. Kind of pointless to buy a rig you can only use 8 months of the year, and can't count on to tow your rig even to Moab in May or November. Not much difference in price when lookin at diesel pickups.

Rubicon is a cool rig, and unlike having two, you only have one money pit then.

You know you truely don't realize how badly beatin up a rig is until you get a new one and you have to move the old one around the drive way periodically.

The trick is, to drive someone's truck that is even crappy than yours is. Than you think yours is still good

My Passport is just flatout worn out and it just makes absolutely no financial sense to get it back to street/trail capable.

I definately understand that. I am almost there myself, but my rodeo is still good enough for the trails

Congrats on the Rubi! I bought a 2004 Rubicon from I guy I work with a several weeks back...still have the BlaZeR2 and it's still my daily driver and primary trail rig, the wife drives the Rubicon.

I know what you mean when it comes to mods...my Rubi came with about $3500 worth of mods on it and it hasn't even been lifted yet...talk about money pits, I DO have two 4x4's in the garage now.
