Rob I am truly sorry that I did not get out to photograph your Rokia last weekend. I have been following your build over a year and cannot wait to see it in person. Fortunately we have plenty of places around Reno that are exactly what the Rokia was built for. As Steve said earlier, I think that a 2WD transmission with a short jack shaft (basically two u-joints mated together) and an OTT divorce mount with a Toyota transfer case would be the way to go for lower gearing. Work out the bugs you have now though before anything else Rob and that thing will go just about anywhere.

Thanks Harry. I was thinking OTT made something like that... but could remember their website. I think that'd work perfect. Especially since there's SO freakin' much stuff avail. for Toy t-cases and whatnot. You would happen to know offhand how long a toy t-case is would you? How 'bout a dual t-case?

Yeah there is a ton of stuff for Toyota transfer cases (gear sets, adapter plates, twin sticks, etc) and the prices are very reasonable.
Toyota transfer cases are just under a foot long (this is from memory so don't quote me) and dual cases add another 6.5" (adapter and low range box). Not sure how much extra length the OTT divorce mount adapter would need.
So who is going to be the first Kia to do this???

I'm really liking the idea of a dual t-case setup with toy cases. I would've thought it the t-case would be 18"-20" or so - way longer. I certainly paln on eventually doing this, but only after or during the SAS which will probably be a year or two before that happens.

What about Suzuki Transfer cases. They hold up up to a small V8 engine and are lighter than the Yotas. I've seen many Toyotas and other 4x4 go with the Zuki transfer, they are highly respected by the Peterson 4wd mag and 4 wheeler.

We've already discussd that issue. Zuk cases won't work because they have an offset rear d-line output.

Sorry for my ignorance, but, what's a d line output?

Instead of the rear axle being centered, it is offset to the passenger side just like the front axle. Toyota Land Cruisers, Land Rovers, and Suzuki Samurais are all like this. The transfer case has the rear ouput offset too, in line with the front output instead of being inline with the transmission. Using a Samurai transfer case would create packing constraints because of the gas tank, not to mention horrendous driveline vibrations at speed.
