Instead of the rear axle being centered, it is offset to the passenger side just like the front axle. Toyota Land Cruisers, Land Rovers, and Suzuki Samurais are all like this. The transfer case has the rear ouput offset too, in line with the front output instead of being inline with the transmission. Using a Samurai transfer case would create packing constraints because of the gas tank, not to mention horrendous driveline vibrations at speed.
