I used the 3.0 V6 radiator (3-row) for my '86 4Runner with 22RE. It mounted up to the stock 4cyl radiator location. I imagine it would be the same for your '83.

Man you guys are coming out of the woodwork now. I left a msg for the rep for the TransPro/Go-Dan radiator, no response yet. I'll call radiator barn tomorrow and see if I can get theirs.

Thanks for all the responses. I knew I had heard good things about radiatorbarn. The one thing I do like about Roger's radiator is that the fan shroud nuts are already welded to it...it's the little things.

Autozone was carrying GoDan radiators earlier this summer. I am running a GoDan three row in my '84 xtra cab. Autozone lists it for the 4runner. In my case I just told them that I have a '84 4runner. This is the second one I bought from Autozone in 2 years, I damaged the first one. The second one was a bit rougher looking and I noticed that they were making them in China whereas before they were coming from the Philipines. I paid $180. Radiator Barn shows a three row, for the 1984 4runner with air conditioning, for $125. -- Matt

Guess I'll throw in my 2 cents as well. Got my 3 row for my 84 extended cab from radiatorexpress.com. Took about 5 days to get here, ordered it on a Saturday online. Cost me $122, and the shroud nuts are already welded on!

OK, so last week I ordered the TransPro 432041 3 Row radiator from Autozone for $135. It came in earlier this week and today I decided to install it.

First Problem: Radiator is too tall, it hits the frame crossmember which keeps the holes from lining up. I was afraid of this, which is one reason I wanted to buy a radiator locally so I could return it if needed. Turns out though, that it just barely hits the crossmember. I got out the angle grinder and removed about 1/8" to 3/16" of material from the edge of the crossmember. Then it easily slid into place and I bolted it down. Now, it also sticks up above the grill more than my OEM radiator, and I was afraid the hood wouldn't shut, but it shuts fine.

Second problem: Since this radiator is about 1" thicker than the old radiator, I couldn't slide the fan shroud between the fan blade and radiator. But, again I removed enough metal from the lower edge of the shroud until it would slip in between there.

Third problem: Not really a problem, just an FYI. My hoses were now just a little too long for the fatter radiator and they kindof looked kinked when they were attached. So I just trimmed a little off the end of both hoses, and now they look good.

I was a little disappointed to see this radiator made in China. But overall, I'm happy to find a 3 core that fits.

I guess the '83s are a little different with the crossmember and what not. I have plenty of room to fit mine in the '85. On the '85, there is a removeable part of the fan shroud on the bottom that allows for easier installation, also the shroud is plastic. It is a tighter fit, for sure, but the additional cooling is nice.

Yeah, apparently 83 (and earlier) has the crossmember sitting much closer to the engine than the later models. I really appreciate the tip on the TransPro radiator, so thanks Roger.
