Getting the Wheeling Fever
Guys,
Recently I noticed when I go from a dead stop, in both forward and reverse, as I'm letting off the clutch I get a "clink" in the drivetrain. Investigating further, all u-joints seem tight and it sounds like the noise is coming from the transfer case area. Kinda concerned. Any idea of what this might be? Also, the truck had a 3 year, 36000 mile warranty when I bought it which has since expired. Does anyone know if the drivetrain warranty goes until 100,000 miles on an '01? Thanks!

Let me know if you figure it out. Mine's done it since about 72k, and it's at 168k now <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />.

Got more info ... had a mechanic check it and he's fairly certain it's the chain in the transfer case taking up slack. I'm not going to worry about it for now ... I have Redline in the transfer case so wear should be minimal to begin with ... if it ain't broke, don't fix it right? I'm just surprised this has happened at the 92000 mile mark.

You might check the pinion nut to make sure it's still tight.

Guys, I'm still having an issue with this (actually it's getting louder). Something that occurred to me though is that I had just changed to Redline in the transfer case. Would this have any potential effect that might cause this noise? Thanks a bunch.
