Gen1 parts compatibility... #647522 09/16/05 11:54 AM

Hello all,
There is a gen1 Montero (4-door,AT,6cyl) for sale for $200.
I have an gen1 Montero (2-door,MT,4cyl).
Is the 4-door worth buying for parts? Is anything going to be compatible? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Thanks...

The interior is almost identical (front seats forward). Some of the drive train is identical. Probably only the front suspension and hubs. A good deal of the sheet metal is identical front fenders, front doors, rear door and hood. One thing you may want to transplant is the front brakes. The V6 front brakes are larger. Look for some posts on this conversion.

It really depends on what you want. Obviously, you won't get any spare engine, tranny or rear end parts. For $200 I'd get it juust for the brakes.

Does the LWB have bouncy and HL washers? Also, the V^ front diff is different from the 4-cyl. Thinking of an ARB for thr front? You'll need the V6 front then.

Also, you can fit a Quest LSD in the V6 front. You'll need either of the CVs/centershaft, depending on which year Quest donor. 87 needs 4-cyl splines, 88-89 needs V6.

If you have the time and enegery to part it out, you should be able to get all thge parts you want, and the the $200 back, if not more.

The v6 has bigger axles than your 4cyl. It has coil springs in the rear too. The engine stuff wont work 4 vs. 6. But $200 you could make your money back parting it out. You can also up grade your brakes. I think if you had the time and place to put it, it is a good deal.

Perhaps the cruise could be fitted as well? It's been a while since I read the tech article, but I think it's doable.

Need a Spot
Assuming you are talking about the 3.0 liter V6 of around 1990 vintage, I would be interested in the engine and/or tranny or at least some parts of the engine or tranny depending on their condition. I am here in St. Paul. I don't have a good place to part it out, but possibly could assist you if you have such a place. For example, I have an engine hoist and many other tools. Maybe we could split the donor? Hope to hear from you.
