Has anyone had any success repairing a sagging headliner? And what did you use.
Thanks in advance.

I think once they start to go, you are fighting a losing battle. You can prolong it by regluing. The B-I-L uses a spray in/on product that I think is 3M. We used it on a neighbors car that was sagging badly. Sprayed it up onto the ceiling through the opened sides, then patted the liner up there, then went over it with soft plastic bondo spreader.

If you are careful, there are little black screw-in things in the "Help!" (red packages) section of many auto part stores. I was able to salvage my Olds in that manner. Space them carefully, and they actually look pretty cool!

I have used 3M spray headliner adhesive. It holds for about a year and then the head liner comes back down.

My take on it is the foam has deteriorated and lets go and thatÆs its not a problem with the adhesive. The roof still has little bits foam stuck to it when it comes back down.

The upside is its easy to stick the liner back up again and its good for another year.

IÆm not sure how well little screw fasteners would work with a metal roof, perhaps I am missing something? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

You could always chop the top. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I know, I know...I'll shut up now.

There is a place near my work that replaces headliners.

I think they charge about $200 for a medium sized SUV.

That's probably about the only permanent fix.

I had thought about buying a new piece to glue up....

But every tme I just stuck my original one back up. If you dont mind the yearly re-glue its not a big deal.

Fifth time is a charm <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

On the new Raider I may go for a new headliner.

There is a TSB on the sagging GENII rear headliner... I printed it out Friday from ALLDATA but forgot it on my desk... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

There are two little plastic parts you get from Mitsu that snap into pre-existing holes in the roof metal after you drill some holes in the headliner material EXACTLY at the specified locations in the TSB. Sounds easy enough...

I will post a scanned image and details Monday evening...

I tried the spray on glue by 3M for my headliner, but it didn't work to well. But my headline wasn't only sagging it was halfway off, hanging down blocking my view of the rear window. So I went back to Super Wal-Mart and was looking in the automotive section. There was this automotive contact cement that advertised it was like "welding" (the bond that is). So I spread about half a bottle up on the roof that was exposed, and pushed it back up and smoothed it out with a roller. I also applied a bead around the edge of the liner. So far so good!
