It is far easier to just undo the top ball joint, everything then just tilts away from the vehicle. I know thge manuals don't call for this, but it is so much quicker and easier. If you don't, you spend a lot of time fighting with it trying to get it all back together. As 4crawler mentioned, now would be the time to switch the studs to bolts.
