I know you are a member there as well... but have did you see the Square driveshaft causing breakage? post on the PBB? Take home messages I got from that thread:
-don't make the shaft engagement too great
-definitely drill and tap for a few zerk fittings
-maybe zip-tie a long shock boot on there to help keep the crud out???
-possible benefit from painting both gliding surfaces with some of that 'slick' graphite paint people use on spring packs???
