Does anybody have a spare one they would be willing to part with for a reasonable price. Mine just went up in smoke. I don't really want to be bent over at the dealer for a new one. Anybody no were I could get a used one from?
85 SR5 4runner....Too many hours of work put into it, Hacked, Beaten, and Still running after all I've put it through
87 Turbo Pickup...Bought Her for $500 put another $500 in her and she's running like a dream.

Call Inchworm Gear at 530-677-8111. I am not positive but I believe that they have some used e-locker motors in stock.

They can be rebuilt. Pull it apart and unless you totally FUBAR'd it usu. what happends is the motor over heats and melts the glue holding the motor magnets to the cover. JB weld them back in place and give it try. Might save ya a bunch of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

'Jake' definitely knows elockers though. Builds fine controllers too. For the life of me, Brian, I don't know why you are going ARB now...

Not sure what happend to it. I was using a battery box to for power to lock and unlock it directly from the pig tail coming out of the motor. Well a big puff of white smoke appeared and it got really hot. I don't know if the wires touched and shorted something out or what. I was able to get it to unlock after this happend but now it won't lock anymore. Any tips for taking the motor apart...I had one apart before and remember it was a really pain in the A$$.

dis/re assembly is no big deal only tricky part is the clockwork spring but it all works out. Start with the dome cover on top and see if it's the magnets, if not go from there. Clean every thing up as you go and when you reassemble go easy on the grease esp. in the "big gear" housing. To much grease WILL get on the limiting switches rendering the actuator useless.

What is the clockwork spring? I remember taking the cover off a previous one. I managed to screw the bushes up and had to find new ones. I don't think the motor got to hot and overheated....I think I shorted something out in the motor. I guess I'll take the cover off and see what has happened. You Sound like you are quite familiar with them.... Just a thought but could I pay you to take it apart and see if you could fix it.

Man if you have cng'd the brushes b/4, you're 3/4th of the way there. Tear into her and see what you find. Ain't rocket surgery.
Clockwork spring is what moves the shift fork. Motor turns the worm gear-> worm gear drives the "big gear"-> big gear winds up the clockwork spring (like winding up a clock)-> the other end of the spring is attached to the "little gear"-> little gear moves the shift fork. The reason for the spring is if the splines arn't lined up the spring will hold tension on the fork until they are and then it will lock. Reason I'm telling you is 'cus if any thing along the drive train is jammed it could cause a motor failure as well.
[edit]Then again if you were using a batt to turn the motor, you bypassed the limiting switches and may have caused an over travel condition. I still think you could fix it, common where's you sense of adventure <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
