One the voltage limiter, if you lost the ground for the limiter, the bimetals in the fuel and water temp gauges see full battery voltage, and heat up enough to warp permanently. You can pop the top of the rear part of the main cluster with a sharp jerk upward, and see the back of the pc board. disconnect the speedo cable and the wire connectors, and you can pull the entire cluster with about 4 bolts/screws, and get it where you can see it well. Anything that smoked must have left enough trace to find. I've got a couple of spare clusters, I think, but they are not complete.

Also look closely at the cluster wiring bundle for a zapped wire, and since there's a hole from under the dash into the cluster, I'd go digging uner there as well - especially since the fuse panel is cut into the side of the dash enclosure.

BTW, girl babies are always hell, and it gets real bad from 13-18....
