one of my four wheeling friends has a 98 TJ 4-banger w/ 33", and, he does well off road and on the highway with his only modification, a budget boost coil lift kit. I don't remember if he's running 33x10.50 or 33x12.50 BfG's. Your axle gears should be 4.11:1. This should manage 33" tires good enough with out a large outlay of money.
