I have loved jeeps sence I was in high school, but never could aford one tell last year!
I have a 04 4cyl TJ 5 speed! I take it trail riding as much as i can (for the chicago area) and I also work in construction, so I drive off road almost every day, and some times gets a little hairy trying to get to some sites.
I want to get Biger tires and a lift, from what I read on the web 31x10.5 is about the bigest I can go with a 4cyl.

My question is what is the best lift I should get (size and brand) also any tips on geting more horse power out of my lil 4cyl.
and is there any way i can get enough horsepower to get 33x12.5 on it?
Any ideas or tips would be great!

Howdy, Lilzen. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> I'll let someone with a Wrangler help you with the specifics. In general, if you go too big with your tires, you'll have to re-gear your axles. You're probably correct about 31" tires... that sounds about right. Check out Rubicon Express as a good starting place for lifts.

one of my four wheeling friends has a 98 TJ 4-banger w/ 33", and, he does well off road and on the highway with his only modification, a budget boost coil lift kit. I don't remember if he's running 33x10.50 or 33x12.50 BfG's. Your axle gears should be 4.11:1. This should manage 33" tires good enough with out a large outlay of money.

I also have a friend that wheels a 4 cyl CJ with 33's and stock gears with very good results. His is an 84 stock engine, not nearly as much power as a MPI 2.5. You might give up 5th gear but with 33's who needs it? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

You can get the teraflex coil spring spacers from 3/4" lift
to 2", if you go with 2" you probally need to upgrade the
shocks, the spacers are about $25 for each corner. With
the 2" you should not have any problems with 31 10.50's.
If you get over 2" you probally going to run in to trouble
with the driveshaft. You will see SYE mentioned on this
site, its a conversion done on your transfercase to keep
the driveshaft from falling out.( slip yoke eliminator).
This will only become a problem if you get over the 2".

I'm in agreement with the other guys. A 2" coil spacer lift GOOD shocks and 33X10.5's will suit you well.

I was climbing some steep hills today had my shocks fully exdended and compressed on the other two wheels, I jumped out to take a look at the room I had, and there wasent much mabey 2" at most. The stock tires are much smaller than 33's (not sure of the size, its in the shop ATM geting new bearings) last thing I want is to put a wheel into a fendor, my wife would KILL me LOL. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

33's might rub light. If you are worried about it get a 1" body lift as well.

yup, i had a 95 4 banger, you will never use 5th again, and the semis will blow you off the highway, no passing power. i put 33x12.5's on mine and was very unhappy with the way it drove on I 90/94. save some coin and when she's goin under the knife, put some new gears in it to. Then take her on down to "speedometer and clock service" on south michigan (if it's still there) and have them cook you up a little boxs to fix the 10 percent error in your speedo/odo. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> rob

Hey! thanks for the tips, I think Im going to go with a 2" skyjacker lift kit with 31x10.5 or even 31x12.5, dont think I can deal with the loss of that much power with 33's. sence this is my first jeep, Im going to take it nice and eazy and learn evey thing I can, then the next one go all out on <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
