Hey nice to see you bought a jeep.I am sad to say I just sold mine but I still know a whole lot. With a Grand Cherokee I would have to say that you will want to invest in a good lift. Rubicon Express or SkyJacker is the way to go if you have the money. 4 inch would look real good on your rig. With a 4 inch you will be able to run 33 inch tires, but you may have to make little cuts to your fender though. I belienve the I-6 still have the Dana 44 in the rear so you are good whith that. This is just my advice. I did just about everything under the sun to my wrangler so you tend to pick up knowledge about all jeeps. Good Luck and happy wheeling

4" and 35's?? No way. I wouldn't even try a 4" and 33's unless you have seriously extended bump stops.
My buddy ran 5.5" and 31's with medium extended bumps stops just so he could get some travel out of it. If you don't mind having near stock amounts of travel you could run 33's.

Well I dont know because my buddy and I about 6 months ago just did a 3.5" lift and he is running 33 with no problem. And it looks real good, but he did have to make some cuts.

Ya, there is barly enough room for 31's with the standered extended bump stop. 33's are much to big for XJ or ZJ wheel wells.

yea the RE 3.5 lift doesnt allow much room for ZJ's sadly, you get great articulation with the 31's and that lift but as for 33's my friend would have to loose a lot of fender to run those on his 3.5in lift.

There is very little or nothing to be done to the I-6 short of bout $2000. You have a very stable, long lasting engine. Nothing NEEDS to be done to these gems. We all like them very much. Big JIm <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

You can put a header on, jet chip, high flow cat/exhaust, "intake"... ETC. All the "pop" mods that people are into these days, but they don't do much to a stock motor. The main limiting factor is the head (valve size and porting), compression ratio and cam selection. You can spend hundreds of dollars and get maybe 5-10 HP (big maybe). If you have access to a shop you could build a stoker or just build up the motor a bit.
When I rebuilt my motor I bored it over cut the head and deck height and ported the head a little bit. I can beat just about any "pop" mod wrangler of the same vintage in a street race. I'm still running stock valve size and cam and intake and exhaust plumbing. I still pass smog with flying colors and don't have to worry too much about running to rich and scoring the cylinder walls or an inferior filter passing too much dirt.
If you do want more power take it to an engine shop. In the end I think the "pop" mods just ware the engine out sooner by letting dirt by and too rich a mixture. In the end though, itÆs a heavy 4x4 that isnÆt shaped too well for speed.
