The Sport does not have the same intake. Why no recall?? Money ..Mitsu is is enough trouble already..but I agree with you there should be one. Me, I disable my secondary so it cant wear out. No noticable difference in performance.

Variable length intake AKA "secondary". The "butterfly" valves open when you "gun" the engine providing a more direct path for air into the lower intake manifold thus increasing power in high throttle situations. The longer intake runners are more efficient for low end. Mine are disabled with no noticable difference in performance. If they dont move then the shaft wont wear out.

The majority of V6 sports came with the 3.0 with only the rare limited model that came with a SOHC 3.5 that does not utilize the same intake plenum as the 95-96 Montero DOHC 3.5.

Depends on opinion, if you already have one I would say put it in. If not disabling is as easy as diconnecting the vacuum pot or unplugging the electrical connection,

There has been many of threads on this issue. One night I promise you I read 30 of them. It seems the people on this board that really know the mechanics of our vehicles say to replace it or take the chance of your motor eating the valve and then It could be a complete rebuild. Even with the hose disconnected. Have I done it with 119,000 miles? No.... Should I? Popular vote says yes. Then again my trusted Mitzu parts man says he has never heard of one person with this problem. I got the impression he thought I was crazy asking. But then why a new part to replace the old one? Because it is defective. Many sides to this story.

I get the impression he's just poorly unaware especially when others are selling them faster than they are montero's (probably not an understatement with the affect of gas prices on large vehicle sales).
