Body Damage is Cool
I've installed 3 of those kits, serviced a bunch more, are they good? Yes and No.
They all require 93 octane or better, all of the ones I've worked on still ping with 101. That is reason enough to stay away.
Also a 2k+ kit is pricey for a kit that leaves you stuck with a pinging 4.2 forever.
Does the kit work well? Easy to install, adds huge pep over a carb and starts every time. Having had a faily good system in your electromotive, this is a step sideways or down.

Personaly I'd never waste one dime on the pinger system, rather I'd do a Howell TBI system.

Here is why.
One day when you see a V8 on the horizon, (maybe not at $3+ a gallon) the Howell computer and harness just needs a couple of tweeks to be fitted on a V8.

Also I like TBI for the trail, just because it is more repair friendly than a MPI system.

I think I would look into the throttle body retrofit. Junk yards are full of the parts needed. Prolly be the cheapest way to go and will perform bout the same as you have now (had). I have not done this deed but would not hesitate to do it because of the initial cost.

thanks for the input.

you're right superdawg, spending $2k to have something that pings would bum me out.

a retro fit of a throttle body, hmmm, more research is required!

I have heard that doing a 4.0 head conversion on a 4.2 block will eliminate any pinging.

if you are gonna do that then just get a 4.0 computer and EFI ...it would save ya some money you would gain more power over the other systems mentioned about because the 91+ ho head flows way better than the stock 4.2 head..do some research...theres a couple things ya have to do to the head but i have seen alotta guys with good results .. i have and entire EFI and i plan on doin the swap soon i cant stand this carter bbd <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
