My fiancee and I were coming back from camping this morning and as we passed one of the local mud holes, i spotted something down there and we decided to stop. When we got down there we came upon an 87 ramcharger on 35s nosed off in a hole, with the rear diff hung on the bank. We hooked up a come-a-long and tried to crank him out to no avail. We then hooped in the jeep and drove back to my place and grabed my truck and the hi-lift. She and I stopped and picked up a shovel on the way back out there. When we got back I gave him a few good tugs and we were making progress, until the rear bumper finally gave up the ghost. Not all the way off, just a nice U shaped. Yay new bumper!!
Anyway we worked for an hour or so and finally got him out and back on solid ground.
I said all that not to be boastful, but to say this:
He said that they had been there for an hour or so standing by the road and only one guy had stopped to see if they needed help. We stopped and the guy in the Ramcharger and I worked together to get his rig out of the hole. I had never met this guy and could have very easily walked away, but I didn't. I rolled up my sleeves and got my hands dirty and helped this guy out.
On the way home as I was thinking about what to do about the bumper and all I happened to think, that is what this sport that we all share is all about. Making new friends and helping each other out.
So here's to all of you guys that have ever went that extra mile and to all of you that will soon get your chance.
Pay it forward guys... and girls. If you haven't been there yet, don't worry you will get your chance.
Have a good one guys,
