Well if he burned it up in one instance of driving, it probably was on it's last legs anyway. I guess it's better that it burnt up on the street than on the trail, right? Now it's broken, perfect excuse to upgrade!

that sucks ryan. my bike broke on me the night before my favrote enduro race this past weekend. now i have to wait till next year and i'm not sure i'll get over it. i almost cried like a little girl. when bearings fall appart at 4:30 pm on saturday there's no possibility of getting parts in time for sunday morning. shoulda left the chain tension alone and i might have at least seen the first loop. 100 miles through the woods on the best trails anywhere and i missed it for a stupid $30. have fun wrenching and don't go to jail, i know the feeling!!

Short of my family, the only people I let near my machines are my good friends. When I say good I mean we have an understanding that if it breaks doing what it was meant to do it's cool. For example, my buddy Matt was faster than me in my own Mustang at the strip, so I let him drive. About 5 runs in he snaps the rear driveshaft yoke. Was I mad? Not at all, thats what we were there to do and what I built the car for. Now if some misscreant just wanted to drive it and didn't have a built car, let alone even been in a car like that, i'd tell em to @%$# off. There is a fine line w/friends/aquaintinences and your stuff. With that said, if this dude did it and laughed about it i'd bust his on the spot.

Man that sucks. It's happen to us all though...

I just got a new to me ranch ATV (æ96) which was in decent working order and my friend wanted to try it out. So I carefully explained how it is a hybrid auto/manual how to work it right... ETC all the things I though he might need to know to drive it without breaking it. But his ignorance knew no bounds and he rolled it off a 4 foot cliff explaining that he though it would be alright with only 3 wheels on the ground... Now the speedo doesn't work and the racks and handle bars are all bent up. The best part about it is he assumes that he has no responsibility to fix it because I let him drive it... One day when I'm older and wiser I'll understand his argument, I hope. Till then only my best most trusted friends touch my stuff.

Yep! When you AND he are a little older and wiser BOTH of you will know that when you borrow ANYTHING you become responsible for not only YOUR actions but for the borrowed item too.. He does OWE you! A responsible grown-up OR a court would make it whole again.

Ps. Even your home owner insurence in Texas knows about this liability. And pays the repair or replacement cost for borrowed items.

Thats too bad he did that to your machine Sunder, but you may never understand his crap arguement. If he had the balls to cheep out on you citing he has no responsibility cause you let him ride it, he's not your friend. This goes for you too 81. Theres no dishonor in being "that guy" who dosen't let any one ride/drive his toys, theres just to much at stake. I have an enormus amount of pride invested in my rides, weather it's a rusty 4 runner or shiny well built Jeep, no one has to maintain them but ME.
