searched but couldn't find an answer on the forum.

Will a 3.0 from an 89 work in a 1995 3.0?

Maybe - maybe not. A while back when looking at 3.5L swap potential, I think we pretty much determined that there was a block change in the 6G72 somewhere along about '94 or '95. I don't know what the difference is (if any), but I think it may have been in the area of the converter housing bolt pattern.

yeah, also judging from the top end the electrical is highly modified, probably not practical. I was hoping an intake swap would do it. Although I have to say, I have grown partially to the brick on wheels look.

Bolck, or whole engine? You are definitely looking at different heads. The 95 is 24V. Also no dizzy in the 95. And then there's the lesser HP of the 12V. All in all I wouldn't consider the swap. The 24V in general is rigged more like the 3.5L it looks like.

Maybe the blocks can be swapped for a rebuild project...???

I was looking through the part numbers for rebuild kits on the site where I got mine and it doesn't show a 12v 6g72 in the montero in 95 only the 24v... But it does show a lot of interchangability with the 94 12v.. but that doesn't mean the bell housing bolts and other bolt holes are the same...

Topline mitsu rebuild kits Custom mitsu rebuild kits

I got the CR183EK on the custom page.

The truck would not even move with that engine. The slowest Montero ever produced was the 92-93 3.0 with almost 10HP more then the 89. With the 89 engine in the 95, Volkswagon buses would be passing you! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

From the posts above, it sounds like you have the 24V engine. However, IF it is a 12V, it will probably work. I recently put an engine from a '91 (Gen I) into a '92 (Gen II), complete from oil pan to valve covers. I have to swap the intake manifolds so that the upper & lower Gen II manifold stayed in the Gen II truck. I've been driving it now for several months.
