Ok, so my truck was leaking steering fluid a little bit over the past year and a half, but in the past 2 weeks it has gone through a bottle of fluid a day. Yesterday i took it to the dealer to get it checked out. My steering is gone!!! I mean the guy said that i broke all of the cast iron or whatever pieces (the rack and pinion is what my dad said) and that the lines were bad. Also, everything needed to be replaced cuz the other stuff was worn out. TO make matters even worse, they took apart my front get to the steering stuff, and they will not put it back together for liability reasons, yet they dont mind asking for 2 large to fix it!!!!!!!!! And you wana know what? the icing on the cake is that last night when i drove my dads brand new jetta to work, i somehow managed to ruin the transmission/unsincronize (sp) it? Geeze!
BUt looking on the bright side, yes there is one, after all this is done and paid for, i am being forced by my parents to put a full under body skid plate on so this wont happen again. Sure i am kind really pissed that the dealer wont put the stuff back together so i can replace the broken stuff with new and beefer stuff, but thats life.
Speaking of skid plates, after doing a search the best design that i found was basicly adding skidders and then welding/bolting a big old piece of 1/4" stainless steal to them that covered all my major components. A-arms will be done the same way, and a full bumper skid extending down to meet the under body part will also need to be fabricated. My real question is: is there anyplace that makes em, and if not, does that sound like a workable practical idea? THanks for your help and letting me vent!
