I just got my lift kit from Indy4x (OME 912s and Rancho 9000s) and am going to install it this Friday. I thought I was going to have to flip the BJ, but this post makes me believe that it's unnecessary and may even be detrimental to the truck's steering. Is that true? I've not gotten a conclusive answer from my research. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I hope this is correct, because I'd rather not mess with the ball joints... EDIT: To further confuse the issue, when going through the box of parts a few minutes ago, I found a set of instructions included with the kit that says that if your kit will give 2.5" or more of lift - this one is supposed to give about three - then you need to flip the balljoint....

Ball joint flips and spacers are not recommended on 2nd gens because you risk over extending the R&P and blowing out the seals, destroying it. That pretty much explains everything. What do you want to know? Btw, if you have a question regarding a topic discussed in another post, go ahead and reply to it. That way the info is all in the same place for future searchers.

Thanks for the quick reply. Anyway, I ask this question because I don't remember seeing that in any of the other threads I searched. Since seeing that in one thread only is hardly conclusive proof, I was hoping to get independent confirmation. This goes most of the way toward that for me. The best of all possible worlds for me would be to hear multiple other '98+ Rodeo owners say that they had lifted their vehicles and not bothered with a BJ flip and everything was cool. As for replying to an old thread, in my experience, that varies from message board to message board. On another board where I moderate, there is no hard and fast rule, but generally the time to bump an old post is if you have definite, conclusive info that would help people make a decision, do further research, etc. Since this post is asking for further clarification, I just started a new thread, though I do absolutely understand why you'd just rather see an old thread bumped. Anyway, thanks again. And I'd still like to hear from other '98+ lifted Rodeo owners...

My opinion is that you don't need to do the flip. I don't know of too many people that have on 2GEN amigos or rodeos.
The rack really is the weak point once you start to go to larger tires, even without flipping the balljoints. I ran mine for 5+ years on 32s and 33s with just the simple torsion bar crank, and never had a failure...until I tried a trail that was slightly harder than I should have been on

Well we have 2 +98 and did not flip the balljoints. The chance of over extending the R&P with a simple BJ flip is possible and if it does it will break the lip off the R&P housing and you will loose all your fluid
I would install the rear springs etc. and then crank the front.I would leave allittle forward rake in it (rearend higher than front ~1")that will help with the Caster angle.
Let me know how thick of camber shims you have on the driverside as compared to the passengerside before and after the lift.Thankyou.
Goodluck.

2nd gen been lifted 3" for over two years, just added spacers and cranked to match. So now it's a little over 5". Just got it aligned and he said he got it as close as he could, but barely missed being inside the parameters.
I'm not too worried about it. It's street use is limited to winter driving and when we need to haul something. It's got 285/75/16's on snowflakes on it.

Instructions ? We don't need no stinking instructions! Seriously tho Jon, do not worry about the flip, its not necessary. For what its worth you can messup your rack without it ! Mine leaks a bit but nuthin' a little Lucas cant plug for awhile. I think 2.5 inches sounds about right for 912's. Have you done the boulder bars yet?

This is cool, guys. Thanks for the input. I feel much better about this whole process now.
I have the day off from my day job on Friday so I hope to have this done in time to take my Rodeo to my evening job. Have to be there at 4pm, so I should hopefully be finished by three or so. I've done suspension work before (lowered a Ford Focus and lifted my Trooper) so I'm not totally new to this. I also ordered some Superwinch hubs today. With any luck I can get those buggers on Friday morning, too. Don't wanna trash my CVs.
As for my sliders, nah, haven't done 'em yet. I was gonna get a set for my Trooper, but then it started to need the money put into repairs rather than mods. Sliders and a roof rack will be next on my list after I get the lift and hubs done. These will be something I do relatively quickly, too, because I don't think that my new, bigger tires and lifted suspension will let the stock jack do it's job should I need to change a tire. I'll need a slider to lift on with my Hi-Lift.
Anyway, enough rambling. Thanks for your help, guys. Pics when I'm finished if: a. You want to see 'em and
b. someone can host 'em for me.

Well, after a day and a half of taking my time and (over)thinking things, I finally got my truck lifted. It sits proudly on some OME 912s and a set of Rancho adjustable shocks. It also wears Casey/Ride Hard's old Wrangler MTRs in a 275/65/16. There's only one problem...
The tires are too big. They look great on the truck, but if I turn the wheel, they bang into the mudflap and the fender behind it and make a godawful noise.
I gues I'll take 'em to Discount and trade 'em in on a set of smaller ones because I don't want to do a body lift.
Oh, well. At least it looks good for now...

I'm guessing you meant those tires are 265/75/16s. You should have no trouble fitting them. You will have to lose the mudflaps. And a minimal amount of trimming to the inner plastic fender may be necessary. Check out Michael Woods' website- web page
