CJ7 Top vs YJ Top #655510 10/12/05 06:09 AM

Does anyone know if a YJ top will fit on a CJ7? If so, will the tailgate and lift gate work together? Do I need to make any changes?

Thanks

YES it will bolt up nicely but the tail-gate/lift-gate will not work well. You will get lots of dust entering. The ones I have seen all had a bunch of 100mph tape on them.

Does the YJ top hang over the CJ tailgate. Or does the Tailgate stick out further than the top. Will I need to use doors off a YJ as well. I am looking for a hard top and doors for my CJ, I found it easier to find a YJ setup instead of a CJ

i love the yj top on my cj. the extra glass/visibility is great. it works with cj doors. the only diff is that your tailgate will close over the liftgate instead of the old way. you can either swap on yj tailgate or fabricate some kind of tailgate latch so that you can open it from the outside.
the first winter that i had the yj top on i had someone close the tailgate latches from the inside and left it that way. the tire carrier is another good way to keep it closed (loosely)
good luck hope this made sense
(this winter i hook up the defrost and wiper too!)

Thanks for the great advice. Two more things (I Hope). Do you have a good seal with the tailgate on the outside of the liftgate? Does it keep the weather out? Can I use my full (original) soft doors with any top?
