Getting the Wheeling Fever

I am seeking suggestions on how to minimize the amount of rust on my 87 4runner. I am living in Portland, OR now where they don't salt the roads. I am moving to the midwest where I know for a fact they salt the hell out of them. I know that by driving in the snow it is inevitable but I would just like to keep my truck as nice as possible for as long as possible, Thanks
