>>>*I did this one at my shop. I had a 5 H/P unit, with about a 40 gallon tank. To run the valve seat grinder, air buffing tools, air float boring tables, die grinders, etc, it was impossible.
So I unhooked the 5 H/P and installed a 10 H/P with a 100 gallon tank, that still was not enough, only two men could work at any one time with air tools.
Then I installed a valve to the 2nd tank, running off just the 10 H/P unit and that works.
Volume is the key, no savings on power of course but the savings in manpower and production time was a lot....*EB

I'm wondering, why does it do this? Do I have too small of a hose? Do the cheap HF fittings I'm using not have enough flow? Or is this just normal for a small tank setup? What size line are you running? If I remember my high school physics, volume through a line is a function of cross-sectional area and pressure. If you go to a larger line and all associated fittings, then you should increase volume through the line.

that's a short hose, and normal diameter, it SHOULD have no problems. You may want to turn your regulator up to 100psi to fix the pressure drop (but on a 25ft line it will only be minor. But really, you shouldn't be hearing your line "filling up", that would mean the tool isn't getting enough air. But if the tools are working correctly (ie powerful enough) i wouldn't worry about it.

The tools are working, but only maybe half their normal capacities. I know this beceause I've taken them to work and use them on the big shop compressor and they spin a lot faster and sound differently. Maybe I'll turn up the regulator.

>>>*Yes, larger increases volume of course. We run metal lines, 3/4" ID to most locations, then jump off of those with 3/8ths to some, we use 1/2" to power the die grinders because of the distance, about 30' from the main lines....*EB

.... Maybe I'll turn up the regulator. Remember not to exceed the pressure rating for your hose.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

You need a two-stage pump to get anywhere near the pressure rating of an air hose... and those are big bucks... there is a large safety margain built in to keep everything safe.

h Good luck using the paint sprayer off it until you get a bigger tank, but when you use it the compressor will run not stop... good luck... I used the sprayer tonight. It worked pretty darn good for what I paid for it. The compressor did run non stop, but it kept up. I turned the regulator down to like 80psi. Only problem I had was the paint diddnt flow evenly out of the gun. Sometimes it would come out a lot, and sometimes it would barely come out. Im not sure if thats because I diddnt mix enough thinner or because the gun wasnt but about 1/4 full of paint.
