Body Damage is Cool
A buddy of mine wants to trade a 85 4 runner with 170k on it and a 86 nissan 300z with 200k on it for my built 82 toyota truck with 146k on it.
What do you think should I do it?
I would have to modify the 4 runner so the mods would have to start all over again.
The nice thing it's already efi but the down side push pull sucks I would have to put highsteer on first.

depends on the shape of each vehicle. the 85 is a decent starting platform, but if I were to build my truck over again I'd start with a IFS truck and SAS it. initally it sounds like more work, but you would start with the right steering box, rear axle, and about the same cutting welding.

take a good look at the options before you decide...........Karl

If you are looking for more interior room/comfort and the vehicles are in good shape, it sounds like a good trade. The '85 will give you the opportunity to do things differently than with the first rebuild, and the Z will give you something cheap on gas to drive or sell to fund the Runner project.

How much have you done to your '82? The Zx is good for going fast so you dont try to do that in your Toy.
I have a 280zx that is down right now so I am always tempted to go fast in my Toy. To me the older 4runners are sweet and with the back removed it looks just like a truck.
2 for one is a good deal, but really it is up to you like what you are getting.

Ya well I dunno if I want to do it or not.
I went and looked over the runner yesterday it needs alot of work.
It has tons of neglect.
It needs a door window regulator, a inner door panel, a drivers side fender , a grill a new front bumper the underside is very oil coated because of leaks the previous owner never took care of. Also it has some wiring issues.
Not to mention it probably needs the front end rebuilt on it.

I would want to make it into a wheeler likely and do a canvas top on it. I have a set of crossover steering arms for it and a spare IFS box.
So all I would need is steering rods and fj80 rod ends to do crossover steering. Also all the rest of the stuff I did to mine gears lockers etc $$$.

If yours is clean and running well, I think he will need to sweeten the deal with some cash.

You need to figure out what you feel your '82 is worth, what it will cost you to get the '85 Runner to the level of your '82, and see what the KBB is on the 300Z if you are going to sell it. Off the top I would think your rig could bring about $5k here in CA. I know you probably have more into it, but you can't get much more than double stock value, even when built with all of the goodies.

You might also consider buying the Runner from him, I would think $5-600(no higher than $800) would be a fair price from the sounds of it.

I dunno I am leaning toward another project vehicle at this point a buddy of mine has a 88 efi toyota 4x4 reg cab with a nice flatbed and custom front bumper on it up for $300. I may jump on it and start sas'ing it. It looks like a beauty to me.
I can score a mini truck axle pretty easily I know a guy who has about 3 of them sitting in his yard.
Probably tax return time I'll sink some more $ into it.

85 4Runner Couldn't think of a better truck. Always runs right. My current one has V6 but but still has IFS.

Z car I had one for too long. Never ran right.
