I need a portable compressor, but don't feel like spending $300 on a Viair or Quick Air.

After looking around a little bit I found these:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=93186

http://cgi.ebay.com/MaxxPress-3000-...294QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MV-5...mQQcategoryZ34999QQitemZ4583464391QQrdZ1

Anybody have any experience with either of these compressors? If the last compressor (MV-50) looks familiar, it's because it's sold by 4Wheel Parts. If there are any better options out there, post up.

Thanks,

Sammy

Have you considered using a Cadillac Air-Ride Leveling Compressor û as seen in this article here at 4x4Wire, or another at ColoradoOff-Road.org û or maybe even have TWO of them lined together, like shown at Robinhood4x4.com ?

The ultimate "cheap" compressor......even cheaper than Smiley's bicycle pump.......

Caddie air ride system compressor. Ten bucks from any local salvage yard.

Smiley,

Actually, I already have that one, and I think it cost more than the current options I'm looking at. The reason I can't use it is because I still haven't figured out how to hard mount it...

Having a unit hard mounted is still an option, so I wouldn't rule out the Cadi compressor. If it's able to fill 35's, that would be a pretty slick set up.

David,

Thanks for the photos. Have you tried inflating tires with that compressor, or do you only use it for the ARB? Per the article that Smiley posted, the Cadi compressor was only able to acheive 120 psi.

Yes I tried to air up a tire with it....and it's fairly worthless for that sort of thing. It gets really hot after it runs constantly for a few minutes. Not a good choice if you need it for anything except a short burst of air.

I have the MV50. That is a very good compressor. Hooks to your battery terminals so no blown fuses (like the cigerette lighter plug in ones)! It takes about 3-4 minutes per tire to go up 20lbs. I was lucky enough to get mine for $25 when Checkers Auto was blowwing them out. Word got out fast and they sold quick at that price. Now 4Wheel Parts has them for like $70...OUCH. Still cheaper than the $250 options. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Theres like a 4 page post in the Toyota section about the MV50. I think its called Autozone compressor review. The reviews are very good, guys say it works as well as a viair II. Pepboys has it advertised for like $50, but they said they will match the Checkers/Advance auto price of $25.

I'm always a few months late. Seems that these little compressors were on closeout for $25 at Kragen/Checkers back in early July. Not sure if Pepboys will match that price since Kragen no longer even sells them (at least according to their website).

I still don't understand why anyone would consider the Quick Air or Viair compressors. For the price, are they really that great? The only guy I've know to have had a Viair compressor used it once and since then it's been sitting on his workbench -- broken.
