I also picked up an MV50 at Checker for $25 a couple months ago...for the money I must say it is an outstanding value. It takes a while to get my 32s from 18 to 40 psi, but not too long (I should time it sometime). And it is worlds better than the alternatives in that price range.
Whether it is good enough to hard-mount for an ARB or whatever, I dunno...but I might try it when I get to installing ARB lockers. Hard to go wrong for that price <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Absolutely! I just got back today from Bakersfield and stopped by three Kragens and an Autozone. No such luck. Nobody even knew what I was talking about when I mentioned MV-50. Just let me know the price.
Thanks, Don, I owe you.

This summer I picked up a MV-50 air compressor at Pepboys. I hard mounted it underhood and plumbed it into my rear bumper. It works well.

I still don't understand why anyone would consider the Quick Air or Viair compressors. For the price, are they really that great? Actually, yes! For those needing high volume, continuous duty air, but don't have the space under the hood for a belt driven compressor or don't want to continually fill up a CO2 tank, they are your only option. I don't think you're necessarily doing a fair comparison. While the little ARB and Caddy type compressors are great for air lockers and even filling up your tires if you've got some time to wait, try airing up an entire group of your friends with one of those. or running air tools for trail repair. or generating enough air to seat a bead. you get the idea. Even if you have all the patience in the world, you'll likely burn up that little ARB/Caddy compressor before you have enough air. its all about duty cycle, CFMs, and what your intended purpose is (air locker, tires, air tools, etc). But I agree, if your purpose is air lockers and the occassional tire fillup, save your money and you'll get away fine with a smaller compressor. -Rob

Air lockers? I wish...If I had an extra $1500 to drop into my SAS that would have been where it went. At this point the air is strickly for airing up my 33's (and then 35's after the 33's are dead). From everything I've read, the MV-50 does just as good a job for that purpose as the $300 options.
I'm also thinking about picking up a CO2 system in addition to the MV-50. They can be found for under $200 on ebay now. I don't mind spending $15 on an occational fill for something that is almost guaranteed to never break.

If you're not opposed to this route, you'll like it better for filling up tires... much faster and you can even run air tools if you need to! you can do it cheap if you hunt around... pickup an old CO2 tank cheap from a resturant or soda distributor, $50 regulator and you're set to go. -Rob
