Ton, to get a good idea on what you're looking at with a relocation, try perusing the classifieds of that metro's newspapers. it's an easy way to get a feel for rents, home prices, job opps & available Zu's. I've moved around so many freakin times I've got it down to a science.

Houston Chronicle seems like one of the main papers & a good place to start.
