94 v6 - i've done several before, but not a v6. after 188k miles, my throw out bearing is squealing. gonna have the flywheel resurfaced. i don't have a tranny jack, so floor jack and straps it is. i have a 1" bl. kit i bought has the throwout bearing, pilot bearing and alignment tool with it. any tips from experience would be helpful. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Fill the old pilot bearing with grease hit the pilot tool in the pilot bearing hole it will force the pilot bearing out. It's bascially the same as doing a 4cyl clutch.

It's really no different than a 4cy. Starter is mounted differently. If you've got any oil leaks around the starter area go ahead and degrease it so you can find all the bolts.

You could always rent a tranny jack (if you can find a place that is). Having one def. makes the job easier.

If you do not have them already enough extensions to get about 3ft or so on the end of your ratchet will come in pretty handy for the upper bellhousing bolts, speaking from 4cyl experience only. Also without a trans jack i had pretty good luck leaving the transfer case attached to the crossmenber and just unbolting the 4 bolts that attach the crossmember to the frame. This gave me a little more control over as it was perched on my floor jack.

if you live by an autozone they sell a adapter to go on your floor jack for 35 bucks. its pulled my auto and the 5 speed out 2 weeks ago with no problems. it even comes with hooks to tie down the tranny

defidently go with the tranny jack on my 4 cyl i could leave the t case and front drive shaft in place and just undo it from the front as for the pilot bearing i have asetalene(not sure on spelling)cutting torchs so i unced out all the balls and cut the outer race carfully not to cut the flywheel <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
toyotas look good with body damage

I do pretty much what Brentox does. Undo the xmember, and lower about 2" to give you a line of sight for the upper bolts. I have a 1/2" x 3' impact extension and an impact toggle socket (17mm- your application may be different). If you must disconnect the drivelines to move the tranny aft, make sure you mark the flanges, so you can reconnect them in phase. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />
Rent what you need to, and have some rachet straps handy to keep it from rolling, as it WILL try!

well, thanks for all of the replies. i got everything out and apart in about 4 hrs, tomorrow - reassembly. ended up making a little wood thing to keep the trans from rolling and allowing 2 floor jacks to lower it. pilot and throwout bearings were shot but the clutch had lotsa life still in it. biggest problem was getting the shifters out! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" /> i guess i will replace the rear main seal, while i'm there. thanks again <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

all done. took a bit longer to put back togther, but everything seems ok. that trick with the grease and the pilot bearing never works for me <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> rigged up my neighbors slide hammer. i bought a slide hammer a while ago cuz i knew i would need it for a clutch change and i left it in Arizona when i came back to new york for a few months. oh well. thanks again
