Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello, I found this post regarding factory alarm system. I have keyless entry but I'm not sure if the alarm system is an easy install or does the dealer need to install it. Perhaps an aftermarket would be better/cheaper? (the "horror stories" concern me)Thanks.

I installed the rs3200+ kit in my '02 with keyless entry and it was a simple plug and play. just take your time and follow the directions step by step and should be no prob - the plugs would only fit into the harness one way, and each plug was different. the most difficult step i had was bolting the brain up under the center section of the dash
Aftermarket alarms will have more way more features/options, but i too was worried about hacking into the wiring after hearing stories. the rs3200+ is a basic alarm but the nice thing is it lets you keep your factory remote.

Hey thanks for the reply. I was thinking it would be "plug and play" that is why I was considering factory.

I'm not familiar with features of current aftermarket alarms but all that's important to me is glass and disable - and retaining keyless entry of course.

I don't need something like remote starting. If you don't mind, how much was the alarm system? (apparently, one needs to shop around as there seems to be a wide range)

definately shop around. back in 02 i got the kit for 180. I've seen it for way less recently, but can't remember where. might check out ebay-I've seen a few new kits on there every so often.
I also only wanted glass breakage sensor, starter disable and to mostly retain the original remote so it worked out great for me, so if that's all you want/need i say go for it.

I checked Ebay - this says for 4runner but it does not have model number or says factory so it's probably not. I will email seller: 4runner alarm

Would you have any instructions you could pass along? Got the alarm, but they didn't include any. I am very handy with electrical installations, so no worries there. Thanks. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

sure. There's an online version here. Or try this 2001 applies to 2002. It required about 1.5 hours. It was easier for me to plug the harness together then zip tie it up. I'm assuming you have a 2002 - if not look for your year here.
