What kind of tires have you guys tried? The OE tires are wearing very quickly. Any good suggestions?

On my GenII, I just had 4 new Toyo Open County A/T tires installed. These tires ROCK! The are OE size, they look like monster truck tread depth - but are quiet as a touring tire on the highway. Cant wait to try them out in the snow this winter (unfortunately these are NO places near me to do any serious off-roading) I highly recommend these tires. I found this link which will tell you all about them....

How do you drive? Agressively? Like the grandmother on Ferris Bueler's Day Off?

To get better longevity, find a tire with a greater treadwear rating than your current set.

As for performance, I'd check sites like the Tire Rack and check their ratings. I'm not sure if there are any truly accurate ratings on this so you'll have to check that out for yourself. Alot will depend on your driving so make sure you mention that when you ask.

It is kind of an odd size tire 265 70 R16. I have looked at Tire Rack. I kind of wanted some recommendations from other Mitsu owners. Treadwear rating tells you something, but not everything. All tires have their own character. It is not a race car so I do not drive it like one. However, I like to have fun now and then.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I had a similar problem picking tires for my VW Golf. I ended up getting tire recommendations from a tire specific forum on a VW forum site.

The tires I've had on mine have been BFG AT, KM, and Geolander MTR's but those are pretty much off road specific and expensive if you don't need their off road capability.

For road use, snow and ice performance is important to me and I've heard good things about Pirelli Scorpions.

HTH.

No offense, but didn't you get a recommendation from a 'Mitsu owner' in my above post??
Also, you were worried about tread wear and the tires that I have recommended have a 500 UTQG (P-Metric) Treadwear rating which is pretty good.

Body Damage is Cool
I'm thinking of getting a set of Bridgestone AT Revos as street tires once my current set wears off (currently stock - Yokohama HTs). I've got two set's of wheels one for off-road one for street/hwy driving.

I did see your recommendation, and I appreciate it. I was just responding to Off-Roaders suggestion. I know what you mean about the invisible thing. I feel that way many times. Sometimes I feel like I am in everyones "users to ignore" category. Then I realize that I am just paranoid and need to double up on my medication for a while.

I read the review of those tires and they do sound great. However, they sure are expensive too. But, if they wear as described they would be worth it.

You can get Bridgestone AT's at Costco pretty cheap. You might also try Michelin LTX.

Don't be fooled by those cheap tires that have 80,000 mile tread life. The fact of the matter is the harder the rubber the less traction you have.
