I have a winch that is currently mounted to a plate with an adapter to go into a class 3 reciever. I am thinking of bolting a cut down class 3 reciever to the top of the front crossmember (one with all the holes below the front bumper). It is part of the frame so would that be strong enough or should I add more support?

Body Damage is Cool
Front Range Off-Road makes a crossmember brace solely for this purpose. you have to weld it on though.

Heres the Link to it.

I'd kinda like to stay away from welding anything there But I am sure I could make a piece like that for less then half the price after shipping.

I wouldn't say that, when i baught mine the front frame rail was fine, have got a friend who's front frame rail is fine as well, not saying i wouldn't want to reinforce it, but they're not always damaged.

There are four bolt holes under the frame at the front where tow hooks mount on the IFS trucks. I used only these for a custom winch bumber and winched a number of times with no problem. I can't use them anymore, because the SAS covered those holes.

It would be safer to have additional mounting, but I would definately at least utilize those holes if you can.

My winch bumper mounts to six holes on the front of the crossmember. I bent it up pretty good on a hard pull this year. I would brace it for sure.
