Actually posted this link in another thread, but thought it might deserve it's own thread.

www.greendiamondtire.com

I find these tires intriguing and may buy a set of the MTs to replace the GY Wrangler MTRs that are on my Rodeo now. I wrote an e-mail to them last night and heard back from the man who runs the distribution center in Denver within about 15 minutes. He answered all of my questions and was very helpful.

I also met a man who has a set of these on his BMW M5 and swears by 'em.

What do you guys think?

that ICELANDER M/T looks alot like the geolander from yokahoma It might be an off brand of that same tire.

Based on what the site says about the production process, I don't know how it could be. In fact, according to the guy I e-mailed about this, that design is based on something NATO uses on their trucks...

It is the same TREAD pattern not tire. Those are remolded tires. They just choose to go with the same tread as the Geolanders and put it on whatever carcass they are using.

oh ok. Are they allowed to do that?? I guess they would need to buy the rights to the tread design??

"Same design" I would very much agree to. "Same tire" does not appear to be an accurate statement. The Green Diamonds are remolded tires with silicon carbide granules throughout the rubber tread for better winter handling. The geolanders are not remolded tires and I have not seen them available with the granules.

Well... the tread pattern of the above tires is the same as Geolander MT's, their Icelander A/T looks exactly like Bridgestones AT REVO's, and their Icelander C/T also looks very familiar (can't exactly place it at the moment). I'm guessing they have gone through any redtape necessary

As for where the tread comes from, this comes straight from the man who has the rights to sell them via the 'net:

Quote
I have four (4) only of the GDT-Icelander M/T in local stock and will not be getting more until mid-November. The M/T in particular is an extremely aggressive tread derived from a NATO military tread design.

Now, there is no denying their similarity to the Yokos. However, I think it's possible that Yoko and GDT "borrowed"
their design from NATO.

Plus, the guy offered me a 10% discount on a set since I'm a teacher. That makes the tires 10% less than really expensive. However, even in spite of the price, I think I'm still gonna try and budget for a set.

And as for being too small: my 265/75/16s still occasionally rub on the front fenders, even after the lift and fender trimming... they're plenty big enough for me.
