Getting the Wheeling Fever
I was just wondering what sort of boost presure is normal in a trooper? I have seen posts here mentioning 12 - 14 PSI?
The 2.8 4JB1-TC in my Jeep will go up to about 8 PSI but this engine is out of a bigger truck and maybe they limit it in some aplications more than others?
My gauge sensor is at the intake manifold.
Thanks
Randy

The turbomaster pages list two pressures for the turbo wastegate used on the 2.3
http://www.turbomaster.info/despieces_garrett/466272-0002.php

On my 4BD1T the wastegate originally needed 20psi to open it (20 is only just acheivable). I've moderated this to 15psi and the engine runs much better with less backpressure.

IMO trying to run more than 12psi without an intercooler is futile. The extra heat in the air and it's resulting expansion mitigates the extra boost and leaves you with only a few percent extra air molecules for a lot of extra restriction on the engine exhaust.

My Trooper C223T runs 10 psi boost, foot on the floor at 3000rpm. I use 3000rpm as red line.

+10 is just making heat unless you can intercool AND increase the pump volume. Without increased pump volume you are just wasting time.

I do have an intercooler and have turned up the pump.

Not quite, the extra boost increases the compression ratio.

More compression = heat. Need boost and fuel

The efficiency of your engine is directly related to the compression ratio. A higher compression ratio will give you more power out for the same fuel in.

My dad's '86 P'up with a C223T runs about 14psi from 2200RPM on. It's all stock, other than the motor being rebuilt. Definitely can tell when the boost comes in.

Yes and to get more compression you need more fuel not just boost. You can achieve more fuel by adjusting the alda but only to a certain point. To move into the higher boost ranges and have effective results the pumps need to be modified to produce more fuel (beyond the mfg specs).

The efficiency of your engine is directly related to the compression ratio. A higher compression ratio will give you more power out for the same fuel in.
