Anyway, now I need to replace the fronts. Are the KYB still the best bet?

For the price, yes IMHO.

The auto parts stores carry monroe shocks for like 20 bucks each, are these crap?

I woudn't touch them with a 10' axle. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Also does anyone have a good/preferred source for the KYB KG5603A front shocks for my 89 LWB v6?

IIRC the last ones I purchase were from Tire Rack. Decent price. Decent service.

Another Q... can someone reccomend a good 10 gallon air tank at a good price that doesn't leak? I bought a 5 gal from harbor freight but not only did it not hold enough to inflate my four 30 inch tires after off roading, it leaked the air out within a few hours, despite my best efforts with teflon tape on the threads. Thanks for any help, I'm a newbie with this off road stuff.

I'm not sure if there's enough air in a 10gallon tank to fill a set of tires. You'd be better off getting a compressor or buying a 10lb CO2 tank from a commercial beverage supplier in your local area & having them install a regulator and a couple of guages. I got a used setup like this for less than half of what a powertank cost these days.
