Just a quick note to all ORIGINAL owners of Isuzu SUV's from 2000 to present... The fuel sending unit started throwing CEL and made my gas gauge go nuts. Well, I called ISUZU HQ in CA. and the guy said it was covered under the 120k mile powertrain warranty. If you're having this very common problem, don't take it to a garage and pay to have it done! Call the closest dealership and take it in for them to do it. If they give you any *****, call 1-800-255-6727 and let them know the dealership not wanting to cover warranty work. Basically the fuel sensor/sending unit is integrated into the fuel pump and you must replace whole thing. Around $400 stayed in my pocket!

Just to clarify, the sending unit can be purchased separately, and installed separately. They just say it's integrated. I bought mine from Merlin at St. Charles Isuzu but I had to give him the part number cause he said they were all one unit as well.
So if you are over the 120 mark and getting denyed warranty, don't replace your pump over the sending unit being bad.

The code being thrown was "fuel level sensor". Not sure if this was the same as sending unit, but I definitely didn't want to have to drop gas tank to do this. I don't have a lift in my garage ;^)

I'm glad yours was covered under warranty. Mine was not. It wasn't that bad of a job. when and if your new one dies and you are out of warranty go here. http://www.planetisuzoo.com/articles.htm/116I had to do mine myself, I didn't want to pay the $550 my dealer wanted. Joe

When this first started happening I did a search on the net and it was crazy the numbers of owners who'd lived with this for a long time. I'll bookmark the link, cuz when I get outta warranty, I'm sure it will fail again. Great write-up by the way.

Dont need a lift to change the FSU. I did mine in my apt. parking lot at night with 2 jack stands, a small floor jack, and section of 2x10 to spread the load on the tank. Not too hard but takes time if the bolt are rusted, after you find them. Did it by myself too, which was interesnting getting the tank on and off the jack since I couldnt go high enough to just roll everything out.

Just had mine replaced today - no questions asked, they replaced the entire assembly under warranty. It's nice to have a fuel gauge again. All my mods in no way affected my overall warranty (I'm sure my t-case is no longer covered, however). Pete
