Gentlemen (term applied loosely)
Developed a squeak around driver's side front, believe it to be torsion bar... Removed, greased replaced. Did passenger side as preventive maintenance, but in doing so managed to remove marks. Haynes says use marks and then realign to those, sort of past that point. Other than eyeballing to the driver's side, is there a way to determine correct tension?

As far as I know the tension stays the same, the marks are for ride height referance.

I thought there were reference marks stamped into the ends (rear)?

don't think it matters, once either en is off, you're off. the bar will fit 360 degrees...

Need a Spot
I adjusted mine using a measuring tape. Park on a level concrete pad and measure the distance from the cement to a common point on the front fenders - I used the point directly above the center of the front wheel spindle.

Increase or decrease the torque using the adjustment bolt on the torsion bar to get the height the same on the L and R side of the vehicle. Use the height at the rear wheels (again through the center of the axle) as guide to ensure the vehicle will be level front to back.

Not terribly hi-tec, but it works pretty good.

Body Damage is Cool
Never heard of a t-bar making noise. Is that really what it was? Or was it a ball joint or something like that?? Just curious.

Just eyeball it, the body and frame vary enough that precise measurements aren't very helpful in finding L/R "level".

And there is no particular rotational orientation for the torsion bar to be in, any marks on there can be used for reference if desired but aren't significant to function.

IIRC the stamped end that marks L or R goes to the rear...

The torsion bar was indeed the source of the noise. Or to put it another way, when I greased them up the noise stopped. I suspect it was coming from the rear where the arm pivots metal on metal...

The torsion bar doesn't really "pivot" per se, other than for adjusting ride height...on the other hand, both the splines on the torsion bar and the big half-moon nut on the adjustment bolt are supposed to be greased, so maybe there is some slop there that could cause noise...glad you figured it out in any case
