I need to transfer the silver molding and flare from the rear passenger door of a 3rd gen 4runner to another door. How is it held on and how do I remove it? It is my bro's 4runner so i don't have it to look at.

Is it held on by clips/screws/double sided tape?

I had a honda back in the day and I removed the molding on th efenders with a heat gun, then adhesive remover for the leftover goo. I think that would be how to get the strip off between the flare and the body panel. As for the flare itself, i dont know. I think they are just bolted on though. Why are you taking them off?

the original Door has a hole in it from a lawnmower launching a rock, and i have another door of the same color, but it doesn't have the molding on it. So i just want to transfer the molding to the new door.

I could of sworn i red somewhere that they are in via clips and holes, but i dunno.

any one else have any other ideas?

Body Damage is Cool
I know the molding above the running boards is held on by screws at the bottom and clips at the top. So I'd look at the bottom of the door to see. The only problem I can think of is that there is an adhesive strip that you will need to buy from the dealer for the new door.

If you search back a year or so there is someone on here who took out their rear molding and they had pics up of how it was attached.

Just drive on some really hard trails off-road. Rocks take them off pretty easily. <img border="0" alt="[Hillbilly]" title="" src="graemlins/notooth.gif" /> But they've never totally fallen off (yet) so I haven't seen the whole story to how they're attached. But it's mostly several clips in holes. I've seen at least 2 types of clips on these things. AFAIK, the obvious ones on the rear doors should pull straight out. I can't get some of the clips to stay clipped again, though. You might need to get a little creative when adding them to a door that didn't have the holes previously. I know JadeRunner added a sheet metal screw or two to the flares on the doors so it's not loose.
