Mark û My (now practically infamous) handling problems started back in April as a result of an æIke Turner-esqueÆ smack to the front. --- Afterward, the most glaringly obvious symptom was that my steering wheel was cocked about a quarter-turn to the left.
Like you, initially I considered the steering wheel -or- the steering column itself to be the source of the problemà so I replaced my steering column and corrected the steering wheel position û however, it didnÆt make a bit of difference in how it handled û and moreover, upon very close inspection, neither I nor Joe could find a single thing wrong with the original column.
After the column swap turned out to be a bust, I received basically the same suggestions that you have here û And it's true; itÆs far more likely to be just-about-anything-in-the-world before it would be the actual steering column/steering wheel connection... It could be twisted splines on the sector shaft of the steering box; the pitman arm; the idler arm; the center-link/cross bar; tie rod(s), etc.
If you pin-it-down, but run into any trouble getting the part(s) that you need - I have quite a nice little collection of bits and pieces now myself - I might have it. --- Just let me know if I can help
You are also supposed to wait 10 minutes (I think is the time frame) after disconnecting the battery before disconnecting anything else.
According to Jerry, just to be on the safe side, you should
wait about AN HOUR after disconnecting the battery, before messing with the SRS wiring.
Insert image of me trying to get the steering wheel off while not putting my head or a body part in front of the airbag just in case.
Yeah - you should have seen me right after I got mine put back togetherà Crouching in the driveway, outside of the vehicle - using my left hand to depress the clutch, while leaning very cautiously under the steering wheel to turn the key with my right (eyes closed and cringing!) --- There are folks who transport Nitroglycerine for a living that probably move around with a great deal more confidence than I possessed as that particular moment. --- Even though I knew I'd done everything right, with my luck, I was still almost 100% sure it was gonna go *BOOM!*
Anyway û Good luck with ità I hope you discover the source of the problem soon
