what year is it. In the USA 95 and older was just called the toyota pickup. And in 96 it became the Tacoma in North America, but everywhere else in the world it was still the Toyota Hilux.
There's several body style years. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think it is:
Hilux body styles: 79-84, 85-88, 89-95 and then in 96 it was the Tacoma with 96-99, 2000-04, and 05+

Hey Grafter I'm not a historical genius on Toyota Europe but I did do some digging on the subject and in my opinion your new Hilux is most comparable to the latest 05' Tacoma. I came to this conclusion by going to www.toyota-europe.com and viewing the gallery and specs on the hilux and then going to www.toyota.com and checking out the Tacoma. If I knew how to get the two pix on here that I saved for ya I would but there are plenty more on the two websites anyhow.

Looking at the comparison pix...I like the Hilux look better. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> It doesn't look like a Chebby Colorado... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

I agree. Those straight drop finder wells look funky to me. Toyota should be a leader in design, not a copy cat. I won't be buying one.

IIRC the Hilux is smaller then the new Taco. I'm pretty sure they still use the same frame from the 84-95 trucks and the old IFS while the Taco shares a basic frame and front suspension with the Tundra. I think the new "oversized" tundra is unique to North America and related markets.

Correct. The Tacoma and the Hi-Lux are very different machines. Check out Brian's site ( brian894x4.com ) for more info. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
