A big thanks to all who helped me get my '91 back on the road! Especially Grass13,FrankR,TobyB. With her Frankenstein transplanted brain/ecu (thanks Grass!) , she turned right over! A special thanks to FrankR for checking the ecu info for me!
Of course my enthusiasm and excitement gave me overconfidence. I ran the truck right over to the inspection station since it was 5 months overdue. But even with her purring like a kitten, she failed for emissions!!!
But I'll tackle one thing at a time.

Maybe that's why he's failing emissions!

from what i understand, it sat with a full tank... waiting to be fixed. i bet it would have passed if they tested it under load .

yep, the gas is over 5 months old and I have almost a full tank. By the "cat" you mean the catalytic converter? I'm still a I need to check my files, but it may be original. I've had the truck 14 years and there haven't been that many parts replaced surprisingly. I guess I'm headed that way though. The most recent change before the ecu was fried was the oxygen sensor.... hmmm.
My plan was to run the gas out of it, refill with high test and techron as suggested to me earlier.

I'd run it hard and get it good and hot before the test, too...

The inspection station is about 10 minutes away, then I sat in line about 10. Do you think I should warm it up more than that next time?

I had trouble sleeping last night worrying about the damn emissions. And a suspicious thing happened at the station. When I got in my truck to pull away I realized that my gauges weren't working. (They were fine just moments before)
I thought maybe a fuse blew or something, so I pulled over in the station lot and got out. The inspector came over and I told him there was a problem with my gauges which had been fine. He proceeds to tell me that my truck is a "dinosaur" and "I'm lucky it runs at all." He also said I got off "easy" because "all I got was a tailpipe check and it's much tougher on newer cars." Sheesh. He then tells me to "bang on the dashboard" and sure enough the gauges started working again. What do you think was up with that?

Thank You to all the Veterans out there.
