Then it must have been a mighty-big, itchy one!
I was wondering if they had been up under the dashboard for some reason and knocked something loose. My truck only has 130,000 miles on it and it's 15 years old. I bet they were checking the odometer or to see if warning lights has been tampered with.

I doubt it, they couldn't get under there to check anything without taking it totally apart. They wouldn't make the effort.

dinosaur?!?!? you should have posted up on his chest . did you ever find out if you can get a temperary registration? if so get one, and run the crap out of it. sitting that long can/will do many "unsavory" things to the way a rig (or dinosaur ) runs or operates. i forgot to ask, do you have any problems with oil consumption? and dont forget to keep a close eye on your seals .

Yeah, that's how I felt about it. I guess I don't think of my truck as "old" and especially not a dinosaur. There's got to be a lot of classics on the road, why don't they get a hard time?
Haven't had any oil related problems(using/burning)before the quit. She ran like a charm up until the day she just quit and wouldn't turn over.
Other than the initial heavy smoke on startup after sitting for 5 months, now thankfully there is no smoke at all.
Is there anything I can do for the seals and what should I watch for?

Is there anything I can do for the seals and what should I watch for? not much you can do except hope that one doesnt get compromised... if you suddenly "spring" and oil leak make sure you know wheres its coming from, and fix it before it gets worsse if its a leak of high quantity, park it until you can fix it. glad its not smoking or consuming oil .
